Our Day in the National Park…Mljet

A very calm sail to get here and  then we anchored in Polace with more emerald green waters surrounding us just begging us to go swimming…we couldn’t refuse.  The landscape is covered in green but not the inviting forest I expected, more of the brush type.  If you follow Odysseus at all, it was here in Mljet that Calypso held him captive as her love slave for 7 years.

We had a quiet night aboard and headed to the park in the morning.    A National Park boat comes around collecting 90 Kunas per person (approximately $17 USD) for the use of the anchorage.  This includes a bus ride from Polace to a boat dock where you climb aboard a tour boat and head to Sveta Marija Island which is home to a 12th century Monastery of St. Mary.  There are also two interconnected “Salt” lakes to swim in.  The town of Polace was filled with Ruins of a Roman Palace which made it very unique.
