Hvar…Do you pronouce the “H”?

Next stop, Hvar.  Hvar was originally settled in the 4th century BC by Greeks from the Island of Paros.  It looked very inviting.  The lighthouse off the southwest coast was being refurbished but still stood tall and proud.

Over-crowded was an understatement as we looked for a spot in the port.  There was one more spot left along the city wall so out goes the fenders, the lines are readied at the stern and the anchor is ready to drop for the med-mooring operation. “Stop” yells a man in a large dinghy.  You are not allowed here he tells us.  We ask him why and he points to a 175 foot yacht approaching.  He says they had “reservations” although this is a public town dock.  We gave in after he assured us he was the Harbor Master.  We are convinced he was getting a rather large “Finders Fee” for a job well done that we were not willing to pay.  Again, the big guys win!!!

We head off to find a place for the night and end up in Uvala Stipanska where we med-moored and had Nate take a stern line ashore for us.

We had to drop anchor a couple of times to make sure it took hold but finally we felt it catch.  Another beautiful night in the Islands was had.  Collin helped me prepare Spaghetti Carbonara for the crew and it was loved by all.  We had planned to head across the bay into Hvar in the morning but the seas were not cooperating and it would have been too much for six of us to cross in the dinghy (I think we might need a bigger dinghy…haha).  When leaving that morning we had another “issues” moment while pulling up the anchor and finding the yacht next to us had laid his anchor over ours and had a tight grip on our Fortress.  We managed to get it free and had a nice sail to Trogir.IMG_5066
