Out To Sea

Today we got a very early start as we had to buy fuel for the boat and the dinghy before leaving port.  The diesel price was $.98 per Liter.  So you have to multiply it by 3.83 to get the price per gallon.  While on our road trip we noticed quite a few oddities.  The speed limit signs were in Miles Per Hour, yet the Mile Markers were in Kilometers per Hour.  I think they are a bit confused on which “system” they want to adopt here.

Finally, we were out to sea and enjoyed a full day of Wing-On-Wing formation in a Downwind pushing us right along…who needs fuel?  Puerto Del Rey Marina was on the Eastern side of the Island and we headed along the South Coast towards Ponce but couldn’t quite make it in daylight so we pulled into Salinas and anchored.  Being on the Caribbean side of the Island it was strange that we saw “Not A Soul” or Boat all day long…only a lone dolphin enjoying our bow waves.

Today we are heading to Ponce where we have a 2:00 meeting with Customs to get an SVRS (small vessel reporting system)…the new card formerly known as “Local Boaters Option”.  This will allow us to call them when we arrive into the States instead of having to locate an actual Customs office.  We already have the Decal from Homeland Security.  We anchored in the harbor and had quite the dinghy ride into the Customs office.  It is the oldest Customs building in the USA, destroyed by a 1918 hurricane, the U.S stepped in and remodeled it in 1924.  On one side of the harbor is a nice Boardwalk but everything seemed closed until the music from the bar ran most of the night at high decibals Smile   The other side is very industrial.

While in Ponce we visited the Art Museum.  It was a very well done museum.  They even had a few Rubens and the Special Exhibit was El Grecko on loan from the Prada in Madrid, Spain.
