British Virgin Islands

We sailed into Road Town on Tortola in the British Virgin Islands and docked at Village Cay Marina.  Here we picked up Rusty and Anna for a week of cruising our old haunt, the BVI’s.  It was here that we chartered many a Moorings or Sunsail boat ten years ago and learned a lot about sailing.  Now we are excited to enjoy it from the portholes of our own sailboat.

First stop, snorkel at the Indians.  This is a group of three rocks along with Pelican Island known as a great snorkel stop.  I was a bit disappointed with the coral but it was still a beautiful spot and made so more by taking Anna on her first snorkel excursion.  Then off to Norman Island where we picked up a mooring ball for the night.  We went to the “Willy T” for Happy Hour and then on to the Bight for dinner.

Today we got an early start and headed directly to The Wreck of the Rhone.  This is a sunken ship that sank in an 1867 hurricane.   But it is still well preserved in 20-80 feet of water.  John and Jonathon did a dive while the rest of us went snorkeling.  Afterwards, we went to Machineel Bay on Cooper Island and hooked us another mooring ball (costs $25).

Today we hoped to get to the infamous “Baths” to do more snorkeling and hanging out among the boulders but the "RED FLAG” was posted and the swell and crashing waves told us that would have to wait for another day.
