Back in the US of A

The last day our visitors were here we moved from Great Harbor to Sandy Cay where we enjoyed some beautiful swimming and snorkeling in crystal clear waters.  Then we headed off to White Bay to the Soggy Dollar Bar and played the ring on the hook game.  We stayed on mooring that night and as darkness fell we were treated to a “herd” of huge Tarpin fish off the back of the boat floating around in the light…a bit eerie as they looked like sharks.  The next morning we headed down to Sopers Hole where we were sad to see Rusty and Anna off.  We checked OUT of the BVI’s and motor sailed across to Cruz Bay on St. Johns and checked IN to the USVI’s.  Cruz Bay was too rolly to stay so we motored on to Red Hook and anchored but the roll didn’t improve as the ferry traffic was constant.  Even hanging laundry out to dry became a hazardous occupation.

After two nights at anchor we decided to head into American Yacht Harbor Marina to make provisioning easier.  We found out that you can take these Safari buses from Red Hook to Charlotte Amalie for $1.00 per person.  So John and I hopped on to see what the Island was all about and run a few errands.  We ended up doing a great sight-seeing tour of the Cruise Terminal, the airport, the University of Virgin Islands, and the mall.  We even picked up a few American items at Kmart like a new coffee maker and hose that we couldn’t buy until now as the connections had been different in the other countries we were at.  A great and cheap way to see a few places!  One thing we noticed that was very confusing to us is that they drive on the left side of the road and the driver seat is on the left side.  Where did that come from?  We are in the USA aren’t we?  We really had to think twice before crossing the street.  Jonathon went to the airport to greet our nephew Russell and he is aboard and will enjoy the sights in the USVI with us for a week.
