Gibraltar

We made it to Gibraltar. It seems like a whole different world because people speak English...even though their "chips" are really "fries". I had some fish-n-chips which were very tasty!!! at the oldest bar in Gibraltar, named The Star Bar. On the way here we had to dodge a tunny net. This is a huge system of nets set out from shore in a maze to get the tuna into the circular trap of boats. Then the underground nets surround the tuna and all the boats start pulling up the nets at the same time and there is a frenzy of tuna in this small circle. Then they catch them with gaffs and pull them aboard the boats. We saw a whole program about the tunny fishing while in Barbate...very interesting.
We had a rough day of sailing or should I say motoring to get here. The winds were on the nose between 25 and 40 mph. It was like being on a hobby horse all day but we finally made it. We are in the Queensway Quay marina. It is very nice and has everything you need. In the photo from on top of Gibraltar, you can picture Jay Sea Dee in the marina to the left. Notice all the traffic coming into port as well.
The traffic in Gibraltar is amazing...ships, freighters, cruise ships, oil tankers, etc. everywhere!!!
Today we took the cable car up to the top. What a ride. We had to wait in line to purchase tickets for over an hour but the views were definitely worth it! There are about 17 Barbary Macaques at the top. We were warned that they can unzip your pocketbooks and take any food right out of your hands. We witnessed that first hand when they took a popsicle from a small child leaving him scared to death and crying that he lost his popsicle.
