A local thing

Today we are at Pigeon Point in Guadaloupe.  We stopped here mostly as a dive spot since the Jacque Cousteau marine Park is here.  The weather has been cloudy, rainy and windy but the crowds still gather on the beach and there is a continuous throng of dive boats heading out to the islands.  This morning the guys went diving and as they were reaching their destination a local boat with four men on it approached Jay Sea Dee.  I was unsure about what to expect but they were throwing vegetation out into the water as they passed back and forth.  One gentleman seemed to spot something and the engine came on and they started dropping the net with floats right behind us.  They dropped it so that it formed a circular shape and as quickly as they dropped it, one fellow dove into the water with snorkel gear on and the other three started hauling in the net.

We have been here for a full day now and have seen many turtles out and about the boat.  I was worried about what I might be witnessing.  But as they pulled the net in tighter, three turtles got pulled out and released…whew.  All that was left was todays dinner and/or items for the fish market.  What a fun thing to watch!
