Bucking Broncos in Port Antonio

A rough night was had by all in Port Antonio last night.  It started late in the afternoon…I’m talking about the wind and waves in the anchorage.  Jay Sea Dee rode it out well but not so much for some other boats.  Pictures don’t really tell the whole story but the wind was popping anchors out of the ground left and right.  The waves got so big we were bucking our way through them like riding a bull at a rodeo must feel.  A boat right next to us was dragging anchor and heading straight for the beach and it was apparent that no one was aboard so John pulled out his AIRHORN and blew it 5 times (the emergency call) over and over until we finally got an emergency crew from the beach patrol to come ask about the problem.  It had drifted over another boats anchor already and pulled that anchor up which caused them to have to move and reset after getting the un-manned boats anchor off of theirs.  It was heading towards us sideways.  The rescue boat finally went over, knocked on the hull a few times, boarded to make sure nobody was there and LEFT…What???  So we could only watch as it was beaching itself until a power boat dropped one lone guy off at the boat.  He tried to use the engine to motor through it but was stuck and ready to hit us again.  John was at the helm, I was at the anchor ready to go.  We would have had to go out to sea for the night and so we were waiting until the last minute.  He finally powered ahead of us and out to sea.  The problem here is there are not many sandy spots to get a good hold but we had gotten here early enough to do so.  Many boats came and went last night.  We hold GREAT in the sandy bottoms.  People on shore near the windmill didn’t have a clue as to what was happening out at sea.  Again…All’s Well That Ends Well…we should sleep good tonight though since it has calmed down a lot so we won’t have to worry about those un-manned boats heading right for us!
